【Public Announcement】LUI Che Woo Prize mourns Sir James D. Wolfensohn

    The Board of the LUI Che Woo Prize expressed great sorrow over the passing of Sir James D. Wolfensohn and extended deep condolences to his family. “We cannot thank Sir James more for his contribution in helping the Prize grow from its inception. He will be forever and fondly remembered.”

    As a member of the Prize Council of the LUI Che Woo Prize since 2015, Sir James had provided valuable advice on the development of the Prize. An excellent achiever in the financial world, he headed the World Bank as its President for 10 years and had taken up leadership positions in financial institutions all over the world.

    Sir James also had a firm commitment in social services. He had taken up membership and served on many eleemosynary boards including the Rockefeller Foundation, the Carnegie Foundation, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation.

    He was the recipient of many national and international medals and awards in recognition of his public service and his support for the arts.  These included a knighthood of the Order of the British Empire (KBE), the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun of Japan, the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the award of Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).
