Prof. Samuel S. M. SUN

Professor Samuel Sun is the Research Professor of Biology, School of Life Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with expertise in plant molecular biology and agricultural biotechnology. He research focus is on crop improvement especially rice yield and nutritional quality. Prof. Sun was the Chairman of Biology Department (1996-2014) and Director of State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (2008-2014) and currently serves as the Director of Institute of Plant Molecular Biology and Agricultural Biotechnology and Founding Master of S.H. Ho College at the University. He has received numerous awards including Friendship Medal: Awarded by the State Government of China to experts making outstanding contributions to the modernization of China in 1996; Greatwall Friendship Award: Awarded by the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality for contribution to Beijing’s construction and friendly cooperation in science and technology in 2000;  Distinguished Alumnus Award of Science Faculty at the University of Hong Kong in 2009; and Honorary Fellow of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2010. He was elected a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2003.
