Prof. GONG Peng

Professor Gong Peng is the Director of the Center for Earth System Science, and the Vice Chair of the Academic Committee at Tsinghua University. Before joining Tsinghua, he has been on faculty in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management at the University of California, Berkeley for over 20 years.

He has published more than 500 papers, books and reports. Due to his accomplishments in Science and Technology and broad international network experiences, he was invited to serve as one of 9 members on the Board of Overseas Advisors to the Ministry of Science and Technology.

As an educator, he was the major professor of over 50 graduated doctoral students. 20 of his former students and postdocs hold faculty positions in major US universities including Berkeley and UCLA. Among his honors, he won the distinguished teacher award from Beijing Municipality; the 1994 Talbot Abraham Grand Award from the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, the 2008 Recipient of Outstanding Contribution Award in Remote Sensing from the Association of American Geographers. His research works after returning back to China won one of the 2014 Best Paper Awards for papers published in the Science China Earth Sciences, and the 2013 Awards of Author of Most Contribution to Chinese Science Bulletin.
