The event explored sustainability in light of booming world population – expected to reach 10 billion by 2050. Secretary Jewell shared the view of The Nature Conservancy that we can meet people’s needs without degrading nature, as long as society ramps up sustainability efforts now. In the panel discussion session, panelists also discussed Asia Pacific’s crucial role in balancing the environment, economic growth, and human development.

Panelists included Secretary Jewell; Prof Christine Loh, Chief Development Strategist, Institute for the Environment, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Visiting Professor of the Anderson School of Management, UCLA; Ms Kyoko Altman, Head of Sustainable Investments, HSBC Global Investments, Asia Pacific; and Mr Jonathan Cybulski, Ph.D student, Ecology and Biodiversity, HKU – The Swire Institute of Marine Science.
